WHAT WE COLLECT

AUTOMATICALLY COLLECTED

• Visit Data: We use Umami Analytics (privacy-focused, no cookies) to understand how folks use edmonton.ink so we can make it better
• Local Storage/Browser Cache: Your browser stores your feed preferences, viewed content, and filter selections to make the site faster and reduce database load
• System Info: Basic stuff like your browser type and operating system
• Location Data: City-level location when you use the map features

WHEN YOU CREATE AN ACCOUNT

• Everyone: Email address (required for account setup)
• Enthusiasts: Name (optional – only shared with artists when you favourite their work if you opt in)
• Artists & Partners: Whatever info you choose to share in your profile

WHEN YOU USE OUR FEATURES

• Favourites & Lists: What you’ve saved and any lists you create
• Artist Shop History: We track where artists have worked to help enthusiasts find them
• Artist-driven Karma System: Artists vote on new artists and partners (single up/down per artist) to help keep the scene excellent.
• Email Preferences: Your subscription choices for artist, shop, or partner updates (default: no emails)

WHEN YOU CONTACT US

• Contact Forms: Your name, email, message, and any other details you share
• Bot Protection: Cloudflare Turnstile helps us keep the spam bots away from forms

HOW WE USE IT

RUNNING THE SITE

• Improving performance through browser caching
• Remembering your feed preferences and filters
• Making sure the site works on your device
• Understanding how people use the site
• Building community features (favourites, lists, karma)
• Creating the shop map with Google Maps API

COMMUNICATIONS

• Responding to your messages
• Sending updates if you’ve opted in
• Notifying artists when you favourite their work (if you’ve opted in)
• Letting enthusiasts know when their favourite artists add new content (if opted in)

PAYMENTS

• Ko-Fi processes any donations (we don’t handle your payment info directly)

• See Your Data: Want to know what we’ve got? Email get@edmonton.ink with “Data Request”
• Fix Your Data: Something not right? Just ask and we’ll sort it out
• Delete Your Data: Want us to forget you? No hard feelings. We’ll zap it
• Export Your Data: Taking your data to go? We’ll package it up
• Change Your Preferences: Changed your mind? Update your settings anytime

DATA STORAGE & INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

Real talk about where your data lives:

• Our website is hosted in the United States
• This means your data crosses the border when you use our site
• While US privacy laws are different from Canadian ones, we’ve got your back:
  • We only collect what we actually need
  • We use reputable services with strong security measures
  • We’ve got contracts requiring our service providers to protect your info
  • You keep all your PIPEDA rights, no matter where the data sits

HOW LONG WE KEEP STUFF

• Account data: Until you delete your account or request removal
• Contact form messages: 1 year max
• Analytics data: 26 months max
• Inactive accounts: May be removed after 2 years of inactivity

COOKIES & STORAGE

We keep it minimal:

• Local Storage/Browser Cache: Stores your feed settings, viewed content, and filter preferences to speed up the site
• Analytics: Site usage patterns through Umami (privacy-focused, no cookies)
• Security: Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection on forms

Want to reset your preferences? Just clear your browser’s local storage and cache.
